I was born and brought up in Allahabad, now Prayagraj. The city is situated on the confluence of river Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati. Prayagraj is great pilgrimage centre. It is in fact, the king of pilgrimages in India. Geographically it is in the state of Uttar Pradesh of Northern India- one of the 28 constitutional state units of federal India. Born in the family of entrepreneurs my father took teaching as a profession. He was a English Professor at University of Allahabad. He taught American literature. In 1964 he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and went to United States of America for further studies. He taught at the University and wrote exhaustively on Mark Twain, Robert Frost and many American writers and scholars. He was married in 1952. My mother belongs to Tamilnadu state, the southern most state of India. Her father too was a businessman, most especifically a hotelier- business spreading across Chennai and Bangalore.
